Blew a hydraulic line at 2am in Baton Rouge and learned the hard way

I was working a night shift on a job near the Mississippi, pulling sand out of a tight channel. Around 2am one of the hydraulic hoses on the boom just let go, sprayed oil everywhere. I had to shut everything down and sit there for an hour waiting for a buddy to bring a spare from the shop. We got it swapped in 45 minutes but lost almost 2 hours total on the contract. My boss was NOT happy about the overtime. Anybody else carry spare hoses on site or am I the only one who learned this lesson the hard way?

Spare hoses are just more stuff to get stolen off the truck and more money wasted when they dry rot before you ever blow a line.

and honestly @sanchez.blake, i heard a guy on a dredging forum say he keeps like 3 spare hoses in a sealed tube bolted under his truck bed and replaces them every 2 years. said it saved his ass twice during hurricane season. i get the theft worry though, i had a box of fittings walk off my trailer last month. but drying out ain't that bad if you wrap them in plastic or keep them in a dry box. losing a whole shift waiting for a buddy is way more expensive than a hose rotting in my book.
