Found a quick way to clear a jammed cutterhead intake on the old Erie 12 last week in the Savannah channel.
After shutting down the pump, I reversed the main drive for about ten seconds, which shook the packed clay and roots loose without needing a diver to go down, saving us almost a full shift of downtime.

Well look at you, saving a full shift by just hitting reverse. The company owes you a steak dinner for that one, not just the usual "good job" from the foreman.

Yeah, I've been there. One time a bearing was screaming on a conveyor and instead of a full teardown, I just backed the tension off a quarter turn. Ran smooth for months after. They never even noticed, just another day on the floor. Makes you wonder why the simple fix is always the last thing they try, right?
