Had a chat with a retired dredge captain named Ray last week

He said I was running my cutterhead too fast for the material, and after I dropped it 200 RPM the whole rig stopped shaking like crazy - has anyone else gotten handed a tip from an old timer that just clicked?

My buddy Louie got told to slow his blade feed by an old millwright and his saw quit screaming.

My buddy Kevin runs a little sawmill out in the sticks, total side gig he does on weekends. One day this old timer, probably 80 years old, walks up and watches him fight with a bandmill blade for like 20 minutes just screaming and leaving burn marks on the lumber. The guy just points and says "your blade tension is way too high, back it off a full turn and a half." Kevin thought he was nuts, but he did it just to shut the guy up, and the saw cut through a wet oak log smooth as butter after that. He said it felt like the machine finally just breathed normal instead of fighting itself. Now he swears by listening to anyone with sawdust on their boots and gray hair.
