Lost a cutterhead near Cairo, IL last spring - still bugs me

I was working a maintenance dredge on the Ohio River just upstream from Cairo. We hit a submerged tree trunk that must of been anchored in the mud for decades, and it snapped my cutterhead teeth clean off. Took three days to fish the pieces out with a grapple and cost us almost 8 grand in replacement parts and downtime. Has anyone else dealt with hidden hazards like old pilings or wreckage in river bends?

Oh man, that stinks. I feel your pain. Lost a whole cutterhead myself a few years back on the Mississippi downstream of memphis. We hit a submerged car that had been washed down during a flood, and it just mangled the whole assembly. Took us four days to get a diver down and cut the mess free with torches. Idk why the river survey guys never caught it on the sonar.
