My old foreman in Gulfport told me I was reading the swing gauge wrong, and he was right
Turns out I'd been watching the needle spike instead of the average, which is why I kept stalling the pump on the Pascagoula job, so how are you all timing your cuts when the current keeps shifting?
Calling it an average is a bit off from what's actually going on in my experience. The needle jumps because you're seeing each pump stroke, but the gauge is just showing a moving number that follows the flow changing. What worked for me on wells that surge is watching the whole range the needle sweeps and timing the cut off the top of that range instead of the spike itself. Take that with a grain of salt since every field runs a little different, but on the shifting current jobs I've been on it kept me from killing the pump.
