Rant: I thought the new silt curtain on the Mobile River job was a waste of time

The project lead made us set up a 300-foot turbidity curtain before we started digging near the oyster beds. I figured it was just more red tape slowing us down. But after two days of running the cutterhead, the water outside the curtain was clear as glass while inside was pure mud. It actually worked. Has anyone else had to use one of these on a freshwater job and did it help with the inspectors?

Ever had an inspector show up and just nod instead of writing you up? That curtain is your best shot at that. Keep it tight, no gaps, and they usually see you're trying. Makes the whole visit a lot shorter.

Shows how a little visible effort often gets you more grace than perfect results.

That line about "visible effort" is spot on. It's like the difference between someone who just throws a tarp over stuff and someone who takes the time to tie it down. @aaron_gonzalez mentioned keeping things tight with no gaps, and that's a perfect example. People see you took the extra minute to make it neat, and suddenly they're a lot more willing to overlook a few small imperfections. It's that human side of the job that never gets talked about enough but makes all the difference.
