Showerthought: my old boss gave me a choice between two dredge pumps back in 2010
We were working a big channel job in Mobile Bay and needed a new main pump. He offered a brand new, high-tech model with all the digital readouts or a rebuilt, simpler pump from a model we all knew. I picked the rebuilt one, mostly because I could fix it with my eyes closed. That thing ran for another eight years with just basic upkeep, while the new model on another barge had sensor issues every other month. Sometimes the fancy gear just adds more points of failure. Anyone else stick with the older, simpler gear even when the shiny new option is right there?

Man, that is the TRUTH right there. I feel that in my bones. My whole career is basically me picking the dumb tool over the smart one every single time. If I can't whack it with a hammer to make it work, I don't want it. All those extra sensors and screens are just fancy ways for the machine to tell you it has a headache. Give me the simple beast that just runs.
