That old-timer in Astoria changed how I read the river
Got to talking with a guy named Frank down at the marina in Astoria last month. He's been running a bucket dredge for 40 years and he said something that stuck with me: 'The river tells you what it needs, you just gotta stop telling it what you want.' I always relied on my gauges and sonar, but he showed me how the mud color and the way the water swirls near the intake can tell you more than any readout. Made me go back to basics on a job we just finished up, and it honestly saved us about 6 hours of rework. Anyone else ever ditch the fancy tech and just go off feel for a while?

That happens everywhere once you start looking for it. Even with coffee, I used to dial in the pour over by weight and timer every morning, but now I just watch the bloom and listen to the brew, and it tastes better somehow. Sometimes the feel stuff is just a shortcut to all the data your brain already took in without you knowing.

Used to think that was just folks being lazy or superstitious, but @king.aaron makes a good point there. Now I catch myself doing the same with my sourdough, trusting how the dough feels instead of the clock, and honestly it turns out better every time.
