Thought the old guy was full of it about warming up the pump, then my suction line plugged at 6am in Mobile
An old timer on our crew kept saying to let the pump idle and warm up for 10 minutes before we started pulling mud, and I figured he was just wasting my morning. Then we fired up cold on a 12 inch suction line in Mobile and lost the whole prime to a plug, sat there for 2 hours cussing and clearing it by hand. Anybody else run their gear cold or do you give it that warm up time too?
Read a thread on a diesel forum about hydraulic systems doing the same thing in cold weather. Fluid gets thick and doesn't flow right till it warms up, so all the gunk settles and clogs the filter or line. Sounds like your mud pump had the same deal going on with that suction line. That old timer probably saved himself a few of those 2 hour headaches over the years.
