Vacuum line froze up on me near Duluth last January and it changed my whole setup

I was running a 12-inch cutterhead on a cold morning near the St. Louis River and the discharge line plugged solid with ice slush. Had to shut down for four hours while we steamed it out, which killed my shift bonus. Anybody else switch to heated hoses after a freeze up like that?

Man's gotta learn the hard way sometimes, right? Heated hoses are a game changer once you deal with that frozen line once. Saves way more than just the shift bonus in the long run.

...and that reminds me of the time I tried to thaw a frozen spigot with a blowtorch back in '05. Melted the handle clean off and had water shooting everywhere before I could find the shutoff. @nathan193 is right about the heated hoses though. I picked one up after that disaster and it's paid for itself three times over just in saved weekend mornings.
