Checked out the new condos going up on 5th Street and the corner taping is a mess

I was walking by the big site yesterday and you can see the work from the street. The inside corners on the second floor units look like they used way too much mud, it's bulging out in thick ridges. I saw one spot where the tape was already pulling away from the seam, and the building isn't even closed in yet. If they don't scrape and redo it before texture, it's going to crack for sure in six months. Has anyone else seen a job go sideways that fast from bad corner work?

Bad corner taping is a sign they rushed the prep work. That first coat needs to dry fully before the next, or it just shrinks and pulls. You're right, it's a guarantee for cracks down the line.

My last landlord painted over wet mud in the corner and called it a day. The crack came back wider than before, looked like a tiny earthquake hit just that one spot.

Yeah that "shrinks and pulls" part is so true. I've seen guys try to do a whole room in one day, slapping mud on before the last coat is even firm. It always fails, just a matter of when. You can literally watch the tape bubble up if you don't wait.
