Dropped $60 on a drywall lift and it changed my whole setup
I used to do all my ceiling work with a T-bar and a buddy holding the sheet up. Then I turned 40 and my back said no more. So I grabbed a used drywall lift off Facebook Marketplace for $60 from a guy who was retiring. First time I used it on a 12-foot ceiling in a garage remodel, I felt like an idiot for not buying one years ago. No more fighting with sheets that weigh a ton or having a helper show up late. I still keep the T-bar for small patches but for anything over 8 feet, that lift is worth every penny. You guys still using a helper or have you switched to a lift?

Damn, you just rent it or buy it outright?

Man, the Facebook Marketplace score is where it's at... I found a barely used sheetrock saw for like $20 last year from a guy who was moving cross country. @wright.jesse, I bought mine outright because renting adds up quick if you do more than one or two jobs. Plus, having it sitting in the garage means I actually look for excuses to use it now. That first time you crank a full sheet up by yourself is almost magical... like your back is finally getting the respect it deserves. The T-bar still has its place though, I use mine for quick patches in the basement where the lift feels like overkill.
