Had to pick between a 12-foot sheet or two 8-footers for a weird angled ceiling in a Portland attic.

I went with the single sheet, thinking it would be cleaner, but then spent an hour trying to get it up the pull-down stairs without creasing a corner, which my buddy said looked like a 'drywall origami fail'.

Drywall origami fail" is pretty funny though, was it really that big of a deal?

That drywall origami fail was real, charlesanderson. A creased corner on a 12-foot sheet isn't just a small bend. It ruins the paper facing, so the joint compound won't stick right later. You'll get a bubble or a crack every single time. The real fail was trying to muscle a single big sheet up attic stairs. Two 8-footers might mean an extra seam, but seams you can fix. A permanent bubble in the middle of a ceiling is way worse.

@charlesanderson it's kind of like that thing where people think they can force a single solution instead of breaking it down into manageable pieces. You see it all the time with DIY stuff or even just moving furniture. One big awkward piece is a hassle, but two smaller pieces that fit through the door are way easier even if they need a little extra work. The bubble on the ceiling is basically the same as a scratched floor from dragging a couch that was too big.
