Spent 4 hours chasing a squeak in a ceiling job near Columbus

Had a Friday job in a old house near Columbus where the ceiling was finished but had this annoying squeak every time someone walked upstairs. Pulled a small test hole, poked around, nothing. Finally gave up and cut a bigger access panel near the corner. Turned out one of the floor joists was barely touching a drywall edge where they shimmed it. Twenty minutes with a rasp and some screws fixed it. Anyone else waste a whole afternoon on one tiny noise?

Oh man, that's the kind of stuff that makes you want to throw the rasp across the room. At least you found it though, a mystery squeak that never gets solved is way worse.

Honestly the worst part for me is when you finally locate the squeak but it's coming from deep inside the rasp's internal frame somewhere. Like there's a loose bolt rattling around in there that you can hear but can't reach without basically taking the whole thing apart. Had that happen with an old rasp once and I just lived with the noise for like 6 months before finally gutting it.
