Taping mud too thin on butt joints, one pass with the bazooka fixed it

I kept getting cracks along butt joints on a 2,000 square foot house in Boise, tried every knife angle I could think of. A guy on site told me to stop feathering the tape so thin and just hit it with the automatic taper in one pass, haven't seen a crack since. Anybody else fight with thin mud on butts or did you just learn it the hard way too?

We had a guy on a job once swear by warming the mud up in a bucket before taping, said it made it flex better. Honestly not sure if that did anything but the cracks stopped, mightve just been him finally holding his tongue right. You ever try that weird trick where you wet the tape before laying it?

Wet tape sticks better? @simon_sanchez58, that warm mud trick sounds like a good excuse to drink coffee.
