The hospital job that made me ditch my impact driver for good
I was doing a lighting retrofit at St. Mary's in Hoboken, three floors of recessed cans, and my impact driver stripped the third 8-32 screw right out of the box. The maintenance guy just watched me curse for a minute, then handed me a ratcheting screwdriver with a #2 square bit and said 'try this, kid.' I finished the whole 47-fixture floor without one stripped screw, and yeah I was annoyed but he was dead right. I turned around and sold that impact at a garage sale that weekend, now I use a manual driver for anything under 5/16. Anyone else made the switch back to hand tools after a specific job taught you the lesson? What bit did you land on?
