Took me 4 hours to find a buried junction box last Friday

I was doing a simple outlet replacement in a 1970s house over in Maplewood, and the old wiring just dead ended in the wall with no box in sight. Spent the whole morning chasing it through the attic with a toner and a snake because someone covered the junction box behind a drywall patch years ago. Has anyone else dealt with a mystery box that took way longer than the actual job to find?

My last mystery box took three trips to the hardware store before I found it buried behind a random piece of paneling in the basement. The whole thing was held together with electrical tape and hope.

Honestly @owens.willow, at this point I just assume every wall hides a tiny electrical crime scene.
