I finally admitted I trust vintage elevator parts more than new tech
Just last week, I was in a building where a shiny new elevator broke down twice in one day! It reminded me of other spots where old elevators from the 70s still run smooth. My maybe crazy opinion is that we should keep more classic mechanical parts in service. Like, those old relay logic boards rarely fail compared to today's touch screens. I see fewer issues in buildings that stuck with their original Otis units. Most folks want the latest gear, but has anyone else found the old stuff just works better? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

So the new elevator just needed a day off to contemplate its purpose? In my line of work, you see a lot of old mechanical parts that were just built to take a beating. New stuff has too many chips and sensors that seem to get confused by their own job. It's like the simpler it is, the less there is to go wrong.

Are we just overcomplicating things now?

Honestly, I get it. My apartment building kept the original 80s elevator controls when they did a remodel, just gave it a new cab and doors. The super said the old relay system is a tank, and he can fix it with basic tools. Meanwhile, my office has that new digital panel that freezes all the time. They just don't build things to last anymore.
