Just realized my $400 investment in a laser shaft alignment tool was a total waste after a simple string and straightedge check showed the same results on a traction motor.

Has anyone else found that the old-school methods still beat the fancy gear for most jobs, or am I just using the laser wrong?

Our shop's laser tool saves us hours on big pump alignments the string can't touch.

My laser level sat in the truck for a month after I spent twenty minutes trying to set it up on a simple gate post. The old bubble level was in my hand the whole time. Sometimes the fancy gear just makes you feel stupid for overthinking it.
