Just spent 4 hours on a door lock adjustment that should have taken 20 minutes

I was working on a MRL elevator in a 12-story building downtown and the doors kept bouncing open at the 3rd floor. After checking the cam and track for over an hour, I finally realized the door gibs were worn down by maybe 3/16 of an inch. Swapped them out and it worked perfect, but I wasted all that time on the wrong part first. Has anyone else had a simple door issue turn into a half day project because you overlooked something basic?

Question whether it's really that serious. Yeah, a bounce issue can be annoying but swapping door gibs is still a pretty standard fix. Sometimes you just have to accept that troubleshooting takes longer than you planned and move on.

Dove into the gibs first thing when I had a similar bounce issue on an old Gen2. Turns out the door track had a tiny burr from a dropped screwdriver that was catching the hanger roller. Spent two hours chasing ghost gibs and cam adjustments before I ran my finger along the rail and felt it. Sometimes the simplest thing is the thing you don't want to check because it feels too obvious, especially when you're already frustrated from being in the pit for hours.
