Rant: stop babying these new controllers

Overheard a guy at the supply house saying he treats every controller like it's made of glass. I've been pushing the same MCE-16 for 12 years with basic greasing and cleaning. When did we forget these things are built to take a beating? Anyone else notice this shift or is it just my area?

Wait, did your buddy have that same problem with the old ones just refusing to die? My friend Mark had a 2005 model, thing had over 300k miles on it, rust spots everywhere, you could literally see the road through the floorboard in the back seat. He finally took it to the scrapyard last year, and the guy there said he could probably get another 50k out of it if he just patched the floor. It's crazy how those older models would just keep going no matter what, like they were built out of concrete and spite or something. Now everything feels like it's made of plastic and programmed to shut down after five years.
