Saw a Schindler 3300 with a cracked controller board cover today

Was doing a routine inspection at a old office building downtown, noticed the plastic cover on the main controller board had a hairline crack right over the relay connectors. Looked like someone had leaned on it or dropped a tool, but the building manager said it's been like that for 6 months. Has anyone else run into these covers getting brittle and failing, or is this just a one-off thing?

Gotta say, the hairline crack on the cover isn't really the issue here. Those 3300 controllers have a known problem where the plastic gets brittle from the heat inside the cabinet, especially if it's near a window or in a room that gets a lot of sun. I've seen them crack just from normal vibration over time, not just from someone bumping it. The bigger thing to watch for is if that crack lets moisture get in, because that's what'll actually kill the relays or short something out. I'd get a new cover ordered sooner than later, it's a cheap fix compared to replacing the whole board.

Yeah, "get a new cover ordered" is the move. Did that on one of ours last year, no issues since.
