Shoutout to the guy who showed me how to clean elevator rollers

I was wrestling with a sticky door for the third time this month on a 2006 Otis in a downtown office building. An old timer walked by, saw me cussing, and told me to pull the roller assembly and hit it with denatured alcohol instead of my usual spray lube. The difference was night and day, the doors glide smooth now without that jerky hesitation. Has anyone else found a weird trick that totally changed how you deal with door issues?

Scraped the old grease off a set of door tracks with a razor blade and wiped it all down with rubbing alcohol first before putting on new lube. That one change stopped the doors from sticking halfway open on a humid day. Worth the extra five minutes of elbow grease.

You are spot on about the old grease being the real problem, @robert_roberts. I did the same thing on my sliding closet doors and realized half the gunk was just catching dirt and making everything stick. The rubbing alcohol trick makes a huge difference, your mileage may vary but I'd never skip that step again.
