Gotta say I see it different. Old Otis manuals are great for reference but some of that stuff is from a different era. Modern synthetic rail lubes last way longer than the old oil based stuff they used back then. I ride maintenance in a high rise and we stretch it to once a year with dry guide rail lubricant. The key is actually checking the rail condition and pad wear more than just sticking to a calendar.

@hugo_craig is right, but nobody mentions gunk buildup on old oils vs synthetics.
