TIL that most elevator door interlocks fail because of dirt buildup, not electrical issues

I found a stat from a 2023 Elevator World study that said 67% of door lock faults are just grime on the contacts, not bad wiring, and now I'm wondering how many calls I've wasted chasing ghosts instead of hitting them with contact cleaner first.

67% of grime on the contacts" is wild, my buddy once spent a whole afternoon rebuilding a drive circuit before realizing it was just dust on the sensor.

Not proud to admit I've got a similar level of shame built up over the years. Replaced a whole starter motor on a customer's truck, handed them a $800 bill, and then realized the ground wire was just corroded. Felt like a real genius that day. Worst part is my shop manager brought me coffee and said "you sure you checked the simple stuff first?" Had to stare at my toolbox for a solid minute before I could answer. Contact cleaner is now the first thing I grab.
