Why is everyone skipping the brake test on motor swaps?

Last month I watched a guy put in a brand new motor, did a full run test, and never once checked the brake drop. Ten minutes later he was chasing a callback because the car settled six inches at the second floor. I've seen this three times now since spring, people getting lazy with the manual release check. Are you guys actually testing static torque before you button everything up, or am I just seeing a bad batch of techs?

Used to think the static torque check was just extra fluff for guys with too much time on their hands. Then a buddy of mine skipped it on a high rise install and the governor let go during a slow descent test, car dropped like a rock before the safeties caught it. That changed my whole view real quick. Now I always cycle the manual release at least twice and watch for that settling before I touch the controller. It takes five minutes and saves you from looking like an idiot when the customer calls about a bounce they can feel from the lobby. Bad batch or not, the shortcut is never worth it.
