My buddy convinced me Firefly actually ended at the right time

I always thought Firefly getting canceled after one season was a crime, but my friend Mark argued something different last week. He said the show got 14 perfect episodes and a movie, and any more seasons would have likely watered down the magic. At first I got defensive, but then I thought about shows like The Walking Dead that just dragged on forever. Do you think some shows are better off ending early before they get stale?

Man, I feel you on this. It's tough because when a show ends too soon, you're left wanting more, but when it drags on, you end up hating it (and sometimes the creators too). I totally get @jones.angela's point about shows getting "zombie-fied" - that's exactly what happened with The Walking Dead for me. Firefly had this tight little package where every episode mattered, and the movie gave it a real ending (even if it wasn't the one we dreamed of). I think my buddy Mark might be onto something - sometimes the best thing a show can do is stop while everyone still loves it. It's a weird trade-off, but I'd rather have 14 perfect episodes than 100 mediocre ones.

Right time" is generous, but yeah, too many shows get zombie-fied past their prime.
