My buddy swore The OA would get a third season...

Back in 2019, a guy I work with named Marcus kept telling me to watch The OA. He said it was too weird to last but that Netflix would definitely give it one more season to wrap things up. I binged the whole thing over a long weekend and got super into the story, especially that crazy ending of season 2. Marcus was so sure they'd renew it because of the massive cliffhanger, but then the cancelation hit about 3 months later. He was dead wrong, and we still argue about it when we're unloading trucks. Has anyone else had a friend give you a hot take on a show's chances that completely backfired?

Oh man, that "too weird to last" line hits home. My friend Jenna was absolutely convinced that Lodge 49 would get a third season on AMC. She told everyone at our book club that the show was too unique to cancel, that the network had to see the cult following building. She even started a whole Twitter campaign with hashtags and everything. Then AMC pulled the plug like a week after our last meeting. Now whenever someone brings up a show she likes, we all just look at each other and smirk.

Isn't it wild how we all do that thing where we just KNOW something will work out because it makes too much sense? Like when that local diner near me finally started getting good reviews and people were saying it was too good to fail, then bam closed down after a health inspection. We always want to believe the universe rewards things that are special or well made, but it's really just luck and timing most of the time. It's almost like we're all just guessing and pretending we have any idea what's gonna happen next.

Gotta say Lodge 49 was already cancelled before that Twitter campaign started, not after.
