Overheard a guy at the library say 'Firefly is overrated' and I almost dropped my book

I was sitting near the reference section and this dude just blurts it out to his friend. Said the show only had 14 episodes and didn't deserve the hype. But like, that's exactly why it ended too soon, we barely got to know the crew. Serenity the movie helped but there was so much more they could have done with the Alliance and the Reavers. Has anyone else run into people who think a short run means a show wasn't special?

I read somewhere that Joss Whedon originally planned seven seasons for Firefly.

Wait, seven seasons? I thought the show barely got one before Fox killed it. That's wild to hear because the whole story arc felt like it was just getting started when it got canceled. Man, what I would've given to see what a full run of Serenity's crew looked like.
