Question about my doubts on Firefly ever being that great

I was always skeptical about Firefly being this amazing show everyone raves about. I finally watched it last month and I'm still not fully sold on it. The world building was cool, but the episodes felt rushed and uneven to me. Did anyone else start watching expecting more and feel like the fans over hype it?

Wait until you get to the episode "Out of Gas" and then tell me it's overhyped. The way they build tension with just the ship breaking down and Mal making that sacrifice is some of the best TV writing I've seen. Sure, a few episodes like "Safe" drag a little, but the character work across the whole season is incredible. Give it another watch with an open mind, the humor and heart are what make it special.

Whoa, hold up. I get where you're coming from but I gotta disagree hard. The show isn't perfect but "Out of Gas" is as good as everyone says, it's not just hype. The episodes feel rushed because Fox cancelled them early, the writers had to cram everything in. The unevenness is more about the network messing up than the show being bad. Give the characters a real shot, the way they bounce off each other is the whole point. The world building is just a bonus, it's the crew that makes it stick.
