TIL Mindhunter got shelved because Fincher wanted to do something else and Netflix basically said nah
Found out yesterday that the whole reason we never got season 3 is because David Fincher wanted to make Mank instead and Netflix just let the show rot, so what was everyone else's theory for where they thought the story was gonna go with the BTK killer?

Heard from a buddy that Fincher's contract gave him total creative control so Netflix couldn't say no.

Jeez, that explains a lot. Honestly, I figured the BTK stuff was just gonna end up like a cold case you keep checking on but never solve, like when you lose a package in the system and have to fill out the same form three times before someone even looks at it. If Fincher had a contract like that, he should've just locked in a second season before jumping to his pet project. Sounds like he needed to learn that you don't quit the main job until the side gig is actually paying out.
