Years later, 'The River' getting axed still bugs me

Watched 'The River' back in 2012. It felt like a real jungle trip. Canceled after just one season. Wanted to see the crew find more secrets. TV was different then. Streaming barely existed. Miss that simple adventure vibe.

That show honestly wasn't as great as people remember. It leaned way too hard on cheap jump scares with those puppet monsters. The family drama at the core of it felt forced and never really clicked. Honestly, network TV was right to cut it loose, it was just a lesser "Lost" wannabe. Pretty glad it made room for better stuff to get made later on.

Calling it a "Lost wannabe" is such a lazy write off, @michaeljones. The monster designs were iconic and the family stuff got way more real than most network drama.

Okay but those puppet monsters were a huge part of the charm, michaeljones! The show was working with a tight budget and made something way more memorable than a bunch of CGI. The family stuff got pretty heavy, especially in season two when they dealt with the dad's past. It wasn't trying to be "Lost," it was its own weird thing that got cut off right as it was getting good.
