Appreciation post: A random coffee chat in Denver totally flipped how I see my business connections.
I was at a small meetup last month and this guy told me his network was 'wide but shallow' and it hit me hard. How do you guys make sure your connections actually mean something?

Man, that "wide but shallow" line is my whole LinkedIn feed. I used to collect business cards like trophies. Now I've got three people I actually text when stuff goes wrong, and one of them is my cousin. The trick is just being a person first. I remembered a guy's kid was into soccer, so I sent him a clip of a crazy goal. That led to a real talk, not just a "let's connect" dead end.

Wasn't there a book about how real power is in your close circle? I read a summary once that said to stop counting contacts and start counting real friends. That means actually helping people with no payback expected. It makes your network deep instead of just wide. You have to put in the time when they need it, not just when you do. It's work but it's the only way connections last.
