Hot take: used to chase every single networking event in town. Now I pick 2 per quarter max.

Back in 2019 I was at 3 events a week in Austin. Wasted so much time on coffee chats that went nowhere. Switched after I realized I got 3 solid clients from one targeted meetup group. Has anyone else trimmed way back on their networking schedule?

Three events a week is crazy... I was doing maybe two a month back in 2018 and that was already too much. The problem with hitting everything is you end up with a hundred shallow hellos instead of a few solid conversations. Picking 2 per quarter sounds way more sustainable, especially if you put real effort into following up after each one.

Hard agree, quality over quantity every time.

Picked 2 events in Q1 of last year and saw way more return than the 8 I did in Q4 2023. The key was showing up early to those 2 and actually remembering people's names by the second pass. Quality conversations beat a stack of business cards every time.
