I keep seeing people at local meetups treat networking like a numbers game

Honestly, I went to a startup mixer in Phoenix last month and watched a guy just hand out his card to everyone without a real chat. Tbh, I used to do the same thing, but after I actually helped one person find a graphic designer, they introduced me to three solid contacts. It's not about how many people you meet, it's about making a couple real connections. Has anyone else found that slowing down and having one good conversation is way better?

My old business card box is basically a graveyard of 200 missed connections. I finally learned a real chat beats a stack of cards.

Yeah that hits home lol. I used to collect cards like trophies but they never meant anything. A quick talk over coffee always leads to better stuff anyway.

Totally get that. I started just writing one thing about them on the back of their card right after we met. Like "loves sailing" or "has two dogs." Makes it way easier to remember the person later.
