I spent 18 MONTHS trying to figure out why my cold emails got zero replies
Everyone in the entrepreneur groups swears by personalization and short pitches. I automated the whole thing with a generic template like they said NOT to do. Got a 4% open rate and zero replies for a year and a half. Finally I sat down and wrote 50 custom emails by hand targeting local shop owners in Portland. Took me 3 weeks but my reply rate jumped to 12%. Has anyone else found that the "scalable" approach is actually the worst way to build real connections?

Automation kills connection every time, manual effort builds trust.

@cameron_chen nailed it. I did the same thing with a batch of 200 generic emails to Denver coffee shops and got crickets. Hand writing 30 custom ones got me 6 replies and 2 actual meetings. Isn't the whole point of this stuff to build relationships, not just blast inboxes?
