Left a stack of business cards at a local coffee shop and got 3 calls in one week

I'm a freelance web designer in Portland and I figured why not, just left 20 cards on the counter at this busy spot on Division Street. Thought maybe one person would see them. Nope, three different business owners called me this week - one owns a food cart and two run small shops. Has anyone else had random low-effort things like this turn into real leads?

A buddy of mine in Seattle did this exact thing with his handyman business. Left a stack at a laundromat and got two calls in a month, one turned into a regular client. Might be one of those old school things that still works.
