My mentor told me to fire my first 3 clients and I thought he was nuts
Back in 2019 when I started my web design biz in Austin, my mentor Bob said I should drop my first 3 clients because they paid too little and demanded too much. I thought he was crazy since I needed the cash flow bad. Turns out those clients were taking up 80% of my time for like $200 a month each. I kept one client anyway and regretted it for 6 months before finally cutting them loose. Has anyone else had a mentor give advice that felt wrong but turned out to be the right call?

@dakota_murphy90 hit the nail on the head. There is a bigger pattern I've noticed in everyday life where people hold onto bad deals because they are scared of starting over. It happens with jobs, subscriptions, even friendships. We stick with something that drains us because we already put time or money into it. Bob saw that clearly with those clients. Letting go of the bad stuff is hard, but it makes room for something better. That is probably the most important lesson there is.
