Solo vs team networking events - which actually works better?

I hit up a local business mixer last month solo. Walked in knew nobody. Had to force conversations. Got maybe 2 decent contacts out of 3 hours of awkward small talk. Compare that to the time I went with my buddy Dave from the parts shop. We split up for 30 minutes then regrouped. Ended up talking to a group of 5 people together. Made 6 solid connections that turned into real work. Same venue. Same crowd size. Different results. Which approach do you guys see more success with? Do you go solo or bring a wingman?

Going with a buddy works better because you can tag team conversations with different people without that awkward "uhh so what do you do" energy. Plus groups naturally gravitate toward a pair rather than a solo person wandering around.

Depends on the vibe tbh. Sometimes overthinking the buddy system makes networking feel way more intense than it needs to be.
