Stop calling every stranger in your DMs a 'potential partner'

I run a small web dev shop in Austin and last week I got 12 DMs from people claiming they wanted to 'collaborate.' I asked each one what they actually do and 9 of them couldn't name their own business model. One guy said he was 'building an empire' but had no website or product. How is that a partnership if you bring nothing to the table? I get that networking is about casting a wide net but maybe ask yourself if you'd refer your own mother to this person first. Has anyone else had to filter out these 'collaborators' who just want free labor?

Half those "empires" couldn't afford a domain name.
