I started keeping a small notebook for every client's skin notes
I mean, I used to just try to remember stuff between appointments, but after mixing up two clients' preferred extractions in Portland last month, I got a cheap notebook from the drugstore. Now I write down one specific thing they mention, like 'sensitive on left cheek' or 'loves the cold stone massage'. It's made my consultations way faster and they feel more heard. Has anyone else tried something simple like this instead of just using the computer notes?

Isn't it funny how the best fixes are often the simplest? I've seen this with so many small businesses, where going back to a basic pen and paper for one specific task cuts through all the digital noise. It just works better for some things.

Totally get that. My old salon manager made us use tablets for everything, but my brain just works better with paper for the small stuff. I kept forgetting which regular client hated the eucalyptus scent until I wrote "NO EUCALYPTUS" in big letters on her page. The computer system has all the official stuff, but that little notebook has the human details that make a difference. It just sticks in your head better when you write it down.

Paper systems fall apart the second you need to share info or scale up. If that stylist is sick, nobody else knows about the eucalyptus note. A good digital system lets you tag that client profile with "scent allergy" and it's there for the whole team, forever. Relying on one person's notebook is a huge business risk. Tech exists to solve exactly this problem of lost human details.
