My mentor told me to stop using steamers on every client... she was right

I had this esthetician named Diane who trained me about 6 years ago when I first started. She kept telling me that steaming isn't good for everyone, especially clients with rosacea or broken capillaries. I thought she was just being old school and I kept using steam on almost every face because it felt like I was doing something extra. Then last month I had a client with super reactive skin who came in red and blotchy after I steamed her. Her face was so angry I had to cancel her next two appointments and comp her a soothing treatment. I finally get what Diane meant about reading the skin instead of following a script. Has anyone else had to unlearn something from their training that felt backwards at first?

Actually saw this influencer I follow talking about how steaming can strip the protective barrier on skin. Makes total sense now why Diane was so hard on you about it. Some clients definitely need that moisture locked in not steamed out.
