Old school esthetician told me to stop using witch hazel
Back when I started like 8 years ago, a lady named Diane who had been doing facials since the 80s told me witch hazel was terrible for skin. I ignored her. Kept using it on oily clients. Made their redness way worse after a few months. Now I see exactly what she meant. Anyone else have a senior esthetician give you advice you fought against at first?

Switched over to a gentle toner with green tea and niacinamide after my face started looking like a tomato every time I used witch hazel. Took a few weeks to see improvement but the redness calmed down way faster than I expected. My oily clients actually got less shiny over time too, which surprised me. Tried going back to witch hazel once just to see and nope, same angry redness came right back. Now I just tell people to skip the drugstore astringents and go for something with soothing ingredients instead.
