A grocery store self-checkout in Portland made me question my whole produce code system

I was ringing up some organic lemons, and for years I've used the code for regular ones because it's faster and the price difference is small, like 30 cents. The person behind me, a guy named Ben, just quietly said, 'You know, they track that stuff for inventory, right?' It hit me that my little shortcut was actually messing with the store's data on what sells. Has anyone else had a tiny habit they thought was harmless until a simple comment pointed out the bigger picture?

Man, that's a real eye-opener, isn't it? I've totally done the same thing with bananas before, just grabbing the regular code. It feels so small in the moment. But you're right, that data is how they decide what to stock more of. Makes you wonder what other little habits have a bigger effect than you'd think.

Noah914 mentioned the banana thing, and it got me wondering - how much does that data actually mess with the store's ordering system? Like, is someone at corporate really changing their whole lemon supply based on a few people keying in the wrong code? I feel like there has to be some buffer for that kind of human error built into their numbers.

Wow, that's actually a solid point from Ben. I never thought about the inventory side of it either, @noah914. Gonna be second-guessing my produce codes now for sure.
