Found out my neighbor's 'free' lawn care came with a catch

My neighbor offered to mow my tiny strip of front lawn for free when I was recovering from surgery last spring. Seemed like a nice gesture, so I said yes without thinking much. Six weeks later I noticed my lawn had brown patches I never had before. Turns out he was scalping it down to basically dirt level to save himself time. He never asked if that was fine, just assumed. I had to spend $40 on seed and soil to fix it. Has anyone else had a favor turn into an ethical gray area like that?

Did your neighbor ever admit to it? A buddy of mine let his cousin "borrow" his truck to haul some junk, and the guy brought it back with the gas light on and a busted tail light from backing into a dumpster. He never even mentioned it, just left the keys on the counter. My friend had to bring it up himself, and the cousin got all defensive, saying "I was doing you a favor by helping you clean out your garage." It's like some people think the act of doing a favor gives them a free pass to treat your stuff however they want. Ended up costing my friend $150 for a new light and a full tank of gas.
