Had to choose between paper maps and GPS directions last weekend

I was driving out to a little town near Springfield for a garage sale and my phone died about 30 miles in. I had an old road atlas in the back seat from 2018 so I pulled over and flipped through it. Lost about 20 minutes trying to find the right page and figure out which roads were still there. Ended up missing the sale by an hour but honestly I kinda liked not having a robot voice telling me where to go. Has anyone else had to pick between old school navigation and technology on a trip?

That paper maps don't lie to you" yeah, right. I had a 1997 road atlas that still showed a highway that got turned into a bike path 10 years ago. Spent an hour circling a subdivision before I figured it out. GPS has sent me down some sketchy roads too though. Last summer it told me to turn into what was basically a fenced off construction site with a "keep out" sign. I sat there for a good five minutes arguing with my phone screen before I just backed up and went the long way. Both methods are trying to get you killed honestly.

Tried GPS once and it took me down a dirt road that was basically a creek bed. Paper maps are slower but they don't lie to you.
