I used to ignore the 'paper not plastic' choice at the grocery store.

Then I saw a video from a guy in Tampa who showed how plastic bags get stuck in sorting machines at the recycling plant. They have to shut the whole line down to cut them out. Now I always pick paper. Does that small choice actually help?

What kind of stuff does your buddy say actually jams the machines the worst? Plastic bags are the usual suspect, but I've heard some wild stories about things like garden hoses or even bowling balls getting tossed in the single stream bins.

Sure it causes a jam, but how often does that actually happen? The machines probably get cleared pretty fast. Feels like one of those things that gets blown out of proportion online.
