My reusable water bottle cracked at the gym last week and I had to buy a plastic one.

I was finishing my workout on Thursday and my metal bottle slipped off the treadmill tray. It hit the floor and got a small crack near the bottom. I was super thirsty, so I bought a single-use plastic bottle from the vending machine for $3. I felt bad about the waste, but I really needed the water. I kept the plastic bottle and have reused it a few times now. Is it better to keep using this plastic one for a while, or should I just recycle it and get a new reusable one right away?

Totally get feeling bad, but honestly, reusing that plastic bottle is a decent move. I used to toss them right away, but @nathan193's question made me look it up. Those bottles can start to break down after a few weeks, especially if you wash them in hot water. So using it for a little while is fine, just don't make it your forever bottle. Maybe start looking for a new reusable one soon, but you don't have to rush out today.

How many times can you reuse that plastic bottle before it starts to break down?

Did you know those plastic bottles can get tiny cracks that let bacteria grow? I'd recycle it soon and grab a new reusable one.
