My Sunday morning routine used to include checking my neighbor's mail by accident

For about two years, I lived next to a retired couple who traveled every other month. The mail carrier kept mixing up our addresses. I used to just put their bills and cards in their mailbox without thinking twice about it. But last summer I opened a bank statement addressed to them by mistake. It was right there in my hands for three seconds before I closed it and drove it over. That moment hit me hard. Now I return misdelivered mail the same day, unopened, and I even put a sticky note on my box telling the carrier which house is which. Has anyone else dealt with accidentally seeing something you shouldnt have because of a mail error?

Tape a note to the inside of your own mailbox too. Write "Check address before opening." I did that after I accidentally saw a neighbor's medical bill. Saved me from doing it again. Also told the post office directly about the mixup. They fixed the route after a couple calls.

Smart move. Might tape a picture of my face in there too.
