Old habits die hard with plastic bags at the grocery store
I grew up always grabbing a plastic bag for produce, even for one onion or a single lime. Last month at the Kroger on Main Street, I stood there holding an apple and decided to just toss it loose in my cart. The cashier didn't even blink, and I saved myself from having a pile of those little bags at home. Has anyone else made the switch to skipping produce bags entirely, or do you still bag up everything?

Do you really need a bag for one lime though? I stopped using produce bags about two years ago after I saw a turtle video online. Now I just throw everything loose in my cart and wash it when I get home. The cashiers never care, and I have way less plastic junk floating around my kitchen. It feels good to just grab stuff and go, honestly. The only time I bag is for loose greens or mushrooms, things that might get smashed.

Totally agree with you @elizabeth_bailey26. I actually read a study last year that said something like a third of the plastic bags people use for produce are totally unnecessary, just for things like one lime or a single onion. I still grab a bag for loose mushrooms or green beans, but I stopped bagging things like apples and avocados. It just sits in my cart and gets washed anyway. Saves me a little time at checkout too.
